We are a commercial fishing family out of Nanoose Bay, on Vancouver Island. We process and sell wild sustainable seafood caught on our boat, the NERKA No.1. We start our season fishing the cold, clean waters of the Northeastern Pacific for Lingcod in April and May, for Salmon when permitted, and for Albacore Tuna from June until October.
We have been providing our Albacore Tuna products to select restaurants and independent seafood shops on Vancouver Island and the mainland for over a decade. Our Fishing Business
We have been in the BC commercial fishing business for over 50 years. Our operations are artisanal, small-boat, and owner-operated. Our Albacore Tuna and Lingcod are recognized as Sustainable Seafood by the Vancouver Aquarium’s Ocean Wise and ‘Best Choice’ or ‘Good Alternative’ by the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch. The BC Albacore Tuna fishery is also certified by the Marine Stewardship Council.
Our Albacore Tuna and Lingcod are individually hook-and-line caught and frozen at sea on our boat within hours of capture. The fish are kept frozen at -30o C onboard, through transport, and are processed and packaged while frozen to maintain the highest product quality. You will see and taste the difference!
Processing, Packaging, Storage & Delivery
All our seafood is processed in local federally-registered seafood processing plants. Our processors follow the guidelines and standards established by Health Canada, the provincial Ministry of Health, and follow the Covid-19 prevention guidelines set out by the BC Centre for Disease Control. All packaging is new and recyclable. Our seafood is kept in industry-standard cold storage facilities, and is delivered in freezer-equipped vehicles to ensure that your order arrives at your door in perfect condition.
